Astrology holds a unique fascination among people of diverse backgrounds. Most people in the West are familiar with western
astrology from reading their daily horoscope but have little knowledge of jyotish astrology. Jyotish (often referred to as
Vedic or Indian astrology) is an exotic predictive system composed of science, spirituality and intuition. It is a tool used to
measure existing karma and vasanas (desires & tendencies) that determine our likely actions and their probable results in this
lifetime.
If you ever had a personal jytoish reading, you may have been both impressed and overwhelmed with the amount of information
that was presented to you by your jyotishi. It is common to want more information that explains exactly where in your chart
did your jyotishi see specific tendencies to make his or her predictions.
While it requires years of training and austerities
to become a reliable jyotishi, many of the fundamental principals can be learned in a brief session. In this video,
Umapati reveals the basic premises of jyotish and introduces the standard meanings of the planets and houses
in your chart. He introduces a few Sanskrit words that you can impress your friends with, while not overloading you in
strange terms. You will be more prepared to ask questions about your chart and understand the information provided to you by
your jyotishi.
